Canadian web series nominated for Indie Series Awards

The Amazing Gayl Pile, Out with Dad and Whatever, Linda are among the Canadian web series that were nominated for the sixth annual Indie Series Awards.

The Indie Series Awards, founded in 2009, bills itself as a celebration of “the best in independently produced, scripted entertainment created for the Web.” JLeaver Presentations’ Out with Dad received seven nominations, including nods for Best Writing – Drama, Best Original Score, Best Editing and Best Lead Actress – Drama for Kate Conway’s performance in the series. The Out with Dad spin off series, Vanessa’s Story, also received a nomination for visual effects.

Pete Winning and the Pirates, produced by Winning Swashbuckler Pictures, received four nominations including Best Web Series – Drama and Best Directing – Drama. The Tory Mundle-produced Single & Dating in Vancouver was also nominated in four categories, including Best Directing – Comedy and Best Ensemble – Comedy. LaRue Productions’ The Amazing Gayl Pile also picked up four nominations, including Best Web Series – Comedy, Best Directing – Comedy and Best Writing – Comedy.

The Canadian web series Asset, from Toronto’s Irradiated Panda Films, received two nominations, including one for best editing, as did Secret Location and Touchpoint Films’ Whatever, Linda in the categories of Best Web Series – Drama and Best Directing – Drama. Ruling Class Productions’ The Casting Room picked up a nomination in the category of Best Guest Actor – Comedy. Beanduck Productions LARPs: The Series and Phasefirefilms, Critical Success Productions and Mightyjoanna Productions’ Standard Action also received nominations for a Best Costume Design.

The winners for the upcoming edition will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held on April 1 at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood.
