New York-based Kino Lorber has picked up the U.S. distribution rights to Guy Maddin’s The Forbidden Room.
The acquisition follows the film’s world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, and is ahead of additional festival screenings in Berlin and Istanbul.
Kino Lorber plans a fall 2015 theatrical release for The Forbidden Room, with a digital and home entertainment release to follow.
Maddin’s latest film, co-directed with Evan Johnson, is produced by Phi Films, Buffalo Gal Pictures and the National Film Board of Canada.
The Forbidden Room stars Mathieu Amalric, Udo Kier, Charlotte Rampling, Geraldine Chaplin, Louis Negin, and Maria de Medeiros.
The deal was negotiated between Kino Lorber CEO Richard Lorber and Mongrel International president Charlotte Mickie.
