Private Practice or The Tudors? Back to You or Blood Ties? With the fall season underway, the networks are again pushing the latest shows from the U.S. and, sometimes, Canada. Many will fail and join the likes of Joey and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip on the ash heap of television. One or two will be a hit, delighting viewers, advertisers and accounting departments in equal measure. But which ones? And so we ask:
What’s going to be the new hit of the fall season?
Dirty Sexy Money on CTV…it’s a show I’d definitely watch. I like Jill Clayburgh and Donald Sutherland…they should draw in the older audience. My guilty pleasure of all time is Dynasty, and Dirty Sexy Money reminds me a little of that show.
Brian Jones, TIFF attendee, from Vancouver
The return of Jimmy Smits in Cane on Global has definitely peaked my interest. They have brought together a great cast that is sure to take the family secrets and conflicts of the Ewing and Soprano families to the next level.
Laurie Ann Coring, marketing manager, Empire Theatres
Patricia Rozema’s HBO series Tell Me You Love Me…with every work she does, Patricia Rozema teaches me something I didn’t know about sex.
David Weaver, director, Love Notes
I’d put my bet on E!’s Bionic Woman going far. The premiere has Katee Sackoff from Battlestar Galactica fame, and in between seasons three and four of BSG, those fans are starving for more of what producer David Eick can do.
Matthew Campagna, writer/director, from Toronto
I’m excited about CBC’s talent competition Triple Sensation. Creator Garth Drabinsky has promised it will contain a good blend of the country’s dancing, singing and acting talents without the exploitive, humiliating antics employed on some other reality talent shows.
