Nelvana inks DVD deal with HP

Nelvana Enterprises has reached a licensing deal with Hewlett Packard that will see the U.S.-based printer and electronics company distribute its animated content through a new online service.

The deal, announced at MIPCOM, will see HP Video Merchant Services offer episodes of Nelvana shows including Braceface, Tales from the Cryptkeeper and Beyblade for purchase on DVD through its network of retailers, including Wal-Mart, where it powers the video web stores.

The service, launched in February, is aimed at addressing increasing consumer demand for more extensive video title catalogues, guaranteed availability, and varying media formats, including digital downloads. As part of the service, HP can also produce a DVD of any movie, TV show, or other video content in smaller quantities that would normally not be economically viable for traditional replication.

‘Working with HP to bring video content directly to consumers is another example of Nelvana’s commitment to partnering with leaders in digital distribution to deliver our valued library to audiences in new and exciting ways,’ commented Nelvana president Doug Murphy in a release.

In addition to Nelvana, HP also struck deals with Arts Alliance America, First Look Studios and Venevision International Films.
