Entertainment One has partnered with First Take Entertainment to codevelop and coproduce a half-hour comedy series based on the Dr. Cabbie feature film.
Dr. Cabbie was released theatrically on Sept. 19 of this year and was distributed by eOne in Canada. The film performed well at the Canadian box office and has pulled in about $1.8 million at the Canadian box office to date, according to information provided by eOne.
No word yet on where the TV series might shoot, or if any broadcasters are attached. The TV series will feature an ensemble cast.
The feature version of Dr. Cabbie was produced by First Take Entertainment and Caramel Films, in partnership with Salman Khan Films and with the cooperation of Telefilm Canada, the OMDC, SODEC and the Harold Greenberg Fund. Dr. Cabbie was directed by Jean-Francois Poulliot. Vinay Virmani, Mircea Monroe, Lillete Dubey, Rizwan Manji and Chris Diamantopoulos starred in the film.
Dr. Cabbie will be released on DVD in Canada by eOne on Dec. 23.
