Lisa Fitzgibbons stepping down from DOC

After seven years heading the Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC), executive director Lisa Fitzgibbons (pictured) is to step down on Dec. 31 to pursue consulting and advocacy work for the cultural sector.

A DOC spokesperson said there is currently no news on who may replace Fitzgibbons.

During Fitzgibbons’ time with the organization – which advocates for Canadian independent doc makers – she oversaw a number of reports on the Canadian doc industry, including two editions of Getting Real: An Economic Profile of the Canadian Documentary Production Sector, and most recently, Growing the Pie: Alternative Financing and Canadian Documentary.

Among her achievements at the organization is the creation of the National Road Show on Fair Dealing and Documentary Production, which unites industry professionals in discussing the best practices for fair dealing in documentary production.

In addition, under her leadership, DOC members lobbied for the POV program, which encourages point-of-view docs for the English-speaking market.
