eOne picks up U.S. rights to Outcast copro

Entertainment One has picked up the U.S. rights to Arclight Films’ 12th century war romance movie Outcast, starring Nicolas Cage and Hayden Christensen, and plans an early February 2015 release.

That targeted rollout stateside will follow on the heels of Outcast getting a release in China in mid-January. The film was supposed to have been released by Yunnan Film Group  in September, but was withdrawn by Yunnan for undisclosed reasons.

Outcast, directed by Nick Powell, is a Canada-France-China coproduction that portrays the heir of the Imperial throne becoming the target of assassination by his despised older brother.

The young prince’s only hope is the protection of his sister, and the reluctant aid of war-weary crusader, Arken, played by Christensen, who must overcome his own personal demons and rally the assistance of the legendary crusader-turned-bandit, Gallain (Nicolas Cage), to return the prince to his rightful place on the throne.

eOne’s U.S. distribution deal was hammered out by Mark Canton and David Hopwood of Atmosphere Entertainment for the producers, and Larry Greenberg for eOne Films U.S.

Outcast is an English-language picture, with Yunnan Film Group providing the majority of financing.

The producer credits are shared by Tove Christensen, Léonard Glowinski, Gary Hamilton, Karine Martin, Christopher Milburn, George Mizen and Ying Ye.

eOne already had the Canadian rights to Outcast before the U.S. deal was inked.
