Idol’s Eye feature no longer set to shoot in Toronto

Robert Pattinson was to shoot his fourth movie in Toronto this month, starring alongside Robert DeNiro in Idol’s Eye.

However, the film will not be making Toronto its temporary home following news that the film’s producers have shut down production on the action thriller, which was to be directed by Olivier Assayas and produced by Los Angeles-based Benaroya Pictures.

“Due to the criteria for financing not being met by producers, Benaroya Pictures has formally decided to discontinue financing the motion picture titled Idol’s Eye,” Benaroya Pictures said in a statement to Playback Daily.

“This is something all of us wanted to avoid, but due to the producers missing a number of financing criteria deadlines that were mutually established by all parties, we were left with no other options,” the indie producer said.

Benaroya Pictures retains the rights to the film project and may restart production after revising the script and assembling a new filmmaking team, the statement said.

Idol’s Eye, about thieves tangled up in a botched robbery of a pawn shop, was to shoot in Toronto, with additional camera work in Chicago. Toronto studio Revival 629 was to host the shoot.
