Teletoon Retro has become Canada’s largest digital channel after securing carriage with Shaw Cable, Star Choice and Cogeco Cable. The channel, which launched on Oct. 1 and rolled out across central and western Canada in mid-December, now has a subscriber base of more than four million households.
According to the CRTC Broadcasting Policy Report for 2007, the channel, which is owned by Astral Media and Corus Entertainment, offers advertisers more than double the subscribers of any digital channel in the country. Top advertisers on Teletoon Retro include Wyeth, Canadian Tire, Procter & Gamble and Ford.
‘The rapid growth of Teletoon Retro is exceptional and speaks to the quality and popularity of the channel’s programming,’ said Len Cochrane, president of Teletoon Canada, in a statement.
Targeting viewers aged 25-49, Teletoon Retro features reruns of classic toons such as Bugs Bunny, The Flintstones, Scooby-Doo, The Jetsons and Rocky and Bullwinkle.
