Breakthrough, YTV and Nickelodeon pact on Max & Shred series

Breakthrough Entertainment has pacted with YTV and U.S. kids channel Nickelodeon to produce a live action buddy comedy Max & Shred.

The sitcom, comprising 26 half hours, is being shot in Toronto ahead of an Oct. 6 bow on Nickelodeon and a day-later premiere on YTV in Canada.

The series star Jonny Gray as Max Asher, a celebrity snowboarder, and science whiz Alvin “Shred” Ackerman, played by Jake Goodman.

Max & Shred is executive produced by Joan Lambur, George Doty (iCarly), Ira Levy, Peter Williamson, Nat Abraham and Michael McGuigan.

Also in the Canadian kids entertainment space, Temple Street Productions is taking its The Next Step TV property on Family Channel on the road as part of a 21-city Canadian stage tour to launch in February 2015.

The Next Step Live on Stage tour will star Victoria Baldesarra, Brittany Raymond, Trevor Tordjman, Jordan Clark, Lamar Johnson, Isaac Lupien, Jennie Pappas and Taveeta Szymanowicz.

The Next Step TV series follows elite dancers chasing dreams to win a national dance title.
