HALIFAX — The Trailer Park Boys are working on a new project, but they’re not leaving the Sunnyvale Trailer Park behind anytime soon.
John Paul Tremblay, Robb Wells and Mike Smith, who play Julian, Ricky and Bubbles, respectively, on the popular Showcase series, are in the midst of creating a new series with the cable channel, but without TPB creator Mike Clattenburg or the original show’s producers.
Details about the new series are unconfirmed, but everyone in the TPB camp is aware of what the others are doing while on hiatus from the show, and there’s no bad blood among any of the principals, according to a source in the cast.
Writer/director Clattenburg has been busy with other projects himself, recently shooting an episode of jPod.
When Clattenburg was promoting the feature film version of Trailer Park Boys — which took in around $4 million at the domestic box office following its release in October 2006 — he was simultaneously editing season seven. He was looking forward to some downtime in the year to come, with the door open to new TPB projects in the future.
‘I might like to shoot some more specials. Maybe a sequel, if that should ever come. Slow down, focus the work,’ he said at the time.
His measured ambitions seem to be coming about: he and his cast did find time in the fall of 2007 to shoot another TV special, which will air later this year on Showcase. Also, a sequel to the feature film is scheduled to shoot in Halifax in June and July, featuring the full cast.
