Canadian exports Backpackers, Seed pulled by The CW

The Canadian sperm donor comedy Seed and web-to-TV series Backpackers have been pulled from The CW network stateside.

The U.S. network launched the Force Four Entertainment and City sitcom and Backpackers, from Shaftesbury and Smokebomb Entertainment, on July 14.

Both Canadian shows were launched on the back of Whose Line Is it Anyway?

The CW, which is looking to air more comedies after finding ratings success with fantasy dramas like The Vampire Diaries and Arrow, didn’t succeed with the Canadian imports.

Backpackers and Seed earned a 0.2 share in the 18-49 demo, with Backpackers slipping to a 0.1 this past Monday night.

Seed, from Joseph Raso and Mark Farrell, was sold by Entertainment One to CW.

Backpackers was originally created as a digital series for CW’s digital studio, CW Seed, before shifting to a broadcast window.
