Alain Resnais’ Aimer, boire et chanter to close Montreal Festival

Alain Resnais’ last film, Aimer, boire et chanter (Life of Riley), will close out the 38th annual Montreal World Film Festival.

Resnais’ adaptation of the Alan Ayckbourn stage play was his last film before the French auteur died in March 2014.

Aimer, boire et chanter will receive a North American premiere on Sept. 1, and stars Sabine Azema, Hippolyte Girardot and Caroline Sihol.

The drama portrays a new play in rehearsals when the cast receive news that a friend is fatally ill and only has a few months to live.

The festival will open with a screening of Claude Lelouch’s Salaud, on-t’aime.

The Montreal World Film Festival is scheduled to run from Aug. 21 to Sept. 1, 2014.
