There will be Bloodletting

Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures has found a home on The Movie Network and Movie Central, both of which have ordered the 8 x 60 series, which is slated to begin production later this year through Shaftesbury Films.

‘We are delighted to bring this internationally acclaimed novel to television,’ said Shaftesbury chairman and CEO Christina Jennings in a statement. ‘This is like no other medical drama brought to television.’

Shaftesbury regular Jason Sherman (ReGenesis, The Murdoch Mysteries) is writing and developing a script based on the Giller Award-winning novel by Vincent Lam. The novel is comprised of several short stories that probe the lives of doctors and the conflicts they encounter with patients, each other and within themselves. Shaftesbury bought the rights to the book in November 2006, announcing plans to take it to TMN.

The series is expected to shoot later this year, though concrete dates and cast are not yet in place.
