Nine industry icons enter the Hall

Publisher Peter Vamos announced last month that nine industry icons will be inducted into the 2nd annual Canadian Film and Television Hall of Fame, organized by Playback.

‘We are very excited to once again be honoring the great people who were instrumental in building the Canadian film and television industry,’ says Vamos.

The 2nd annual Hall of Fame honorees and their categories are: Robert Lantos, producer and cofounder of the former Alliance Communications (industry builder); Roger Frappier, veteran Quebec film producer and Academy Award nominee (feature film); Trina McQueen, former president and COO of CTV (television); Catherine O’Hara, SCTV alum and beloved actress (talent); Allan King, filmmaker and cinéma vérité master (creative); and four recipients in the pioneer category: Israel Asper, founder of Canwest Global Communications; Donald Brittain, renowned documentary filmmaker; and Johnny Wayne and Frank Shuster, the legendary Canadian comedy duo known as Wayne and Shuster.

They join last year’s inaugural inductees: Michael Spencer (industry builder), André Link and John Dunning (film), Moses Znaimer (television), Gordon Pinsent (talent), Norman Jewison (creative), and pioneers Harold Greenberg, Claude Jutra and Barbara Frum.

The awards will be presented June 25 at the Drake Hotel in Toronto. While Playback also looks for a future physical home for the Hall of Fame, it will reside online, featuring profiles, bios and photos of the inductees.
