CBC Sports has signed a three-year deal with Tennis Canada to keep the rights for the Rogers Cup men’s and women’s tournament semifinals and finals. The agreement runs July 2008 through 2010 and gives CBC live coverage of the Canadian stops of the Women’s Tennis Association tour and the Association of Tennis Professionals tour.
The Rogers Cup events are the oldest ongoing tournaments after Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. Interest in women’s tournaments may be high this year as a new women champion will be crowned in 2008.
Tennis Canada president and CEO Michael S. Downey says the CBC’s ‘long-standing tradition of covering the Rogers Cup events’ is a key reason for continuing the relationship. This year’s coverage starts July 26.
