Industrial Light and Magic opens new Vancouver studio

Industrial Light and Magic officially opened the doors on a new studio in Vancouver with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday.

The Lucasfilm subsidiary has moved from temporary space on Carrall Street to the Water Street studio previously occupied by Pixar Canada.

Pixar Canada, which like Lucasfilm is owned by Disney, shut down in October 2013.

ILM’s new Vancouver studio will provide visual effects for Star Wars VII,  Warcraft and Tomorrowland, among other movie projects.

The new facility expects to have around 200 artists at work by summer 2014.

The official Vancouver launch was attended by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, B.C. minister of international trade Ed Fast and B.C. minister of state for small business Naomi Yamamoto.
