Gerry Frappier has been named French chef de mission of the CTV-Rogers Media Consortium, and will oversee all French-language coverage of the Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 Olympic Games on RDS.
Frappier, a Montreal native, will also continue to serve in his current role as president and GM of the French-language sportscaster.
‘Gerry has led the team that has made RDS the uncontested source for sports among the French-speaking population,’ said CTV sports president Rick Brace in a statement. ‘He is the perfect candidate to ensure that the French coverage for Vancouver 2010 will be superlative.’
RDS also announced recently that Domenic Vannelli will be executive producer of French-language coverage for the Vancouver and London Games, while continuing as RDS VP of production.
‘Dom has the experience, drive and know-how to build and produce the finest French-language Olympic coverage. He’s not afraid to dive right in and try new techniques, constantly pushing the envelope to grow and enhance the broadcasts,’ said Keith Pelley, president of the CTV-Rogers Media Consortium.
RDS, which is 80% owned by CTVglobemedia and 20% by ESPN, will be producing all French-language coverage of the 2010/12 Olympics as part of the deal CTV signed for rights to the Games.
