The Stephen King thriller Dolan’s Cadillac wraps production in Moosejaw, SK at the end of June, coproduced by Minds Eye Entertainment and Film Bridge International out of Los Angeles.
Christian Slater (Windtalkers) stars as a the titular mob boss and Caddy driver who, says director Jeff Beesley (Corner Gas, Little Mosque on the Prairie), ‘will go down as one of the great film villains of all time.’ Slater is flanked by Canadian talent such as Wes Bentley (Weirdsville, American Beauty) and Emmanuelle Vaugier (Blonde and Blonder, CSI: NY).
The story, adapted by Richard Dooling (Stephen King’s Kingdom Hospital), centers on a law-abiding school teacher (Bentley) seeking to avenge the death of his wife. It’s ‘No Country for Old Men meets Sexy Beast,’ says Beesely.
Shot on 35mm Panavision by DOP Gerald Packer (American Pie Presents: Beta House, Jacob Two Two Meets the Hooded Fang), the $12-million feature is being produced by Rhonda Baker (The Messengers) and Alain Gagnon (The Sum of All Fears) and is financed independently out of Canada and the U.K.
Having a Saskatchewan director, says executive producer Kevin DeWalt of Minds Eye, ‘is more of the bonus for me. It’s hard for regional directors to break into the big time,’ he says.
Dolan’s Cadillac will be distributed by Alliance Films.
