Idol loser gets own series

Canadian Idol also-ran Tara Oram is taking another shot at TV fame following a team-up with Henry Less Productions on The Tara Diaries. The six-week series debuts June 20 on CMT, documenting the Newfoundland native’s attempt to build a professional singing career.

Viewers will be able to follow Oram’s journey through mycmt.com. ‘For the first time, viewers will be invited to participate real-time in an artist’s career decisions,’ says CMT Canada programming VP Ted Ellis. ‘Through online polls, the fans will help determine results — like Tara’s final CD cover or video treatment — at the end of each episode.’

Fans will also be able to submit their own original songs on the website, where the best song — based on online voting — may be featured on Oram’s first album. Behind-the-scenes extras and personal notes from the singer will also be featured on the site. Oram made it into the top 10 on last summer’s Idol, but was voted off.

Henry Less Productions has been down similar roads with CMT before, charting the lives of Canuck country singers The Wilkinsons with an eponymous and well-received reality in 2006, and more recently with the six-parter Crystal: Living the Dream, a profile of rising star Crystal Shawanda.
