Alliance reverses screening ban

Alliance Films has reversed the ban on pre-screening attendance it had imposed on The Globe and Mail‘s film critics.

The ban, which was to come into place on Wednesday night with a screening of Patricia Rozema’s Kit Kittridge: An American Girl, did not pan out when the director herself provided Globe and Mail reviewers with tickets. The distributor had moved to bar Globe critics because of the very low ratings the paper had run of the Sex and the City movie.

An Alliance spokesperson declined to comment. Presumably the potential for negative publicity played a role.

Kit Kittredge received two and a half stars in critic Rick Groen’s review. Rozema had said she didn’t expect the Globe to like the film.
