Canadian Women in Communications has officially renamed itself as Canadian Women in Communications and Technology, as it aims to build stronger connections between the communications and technology sectors.
While the organization has traditionally served women who worked in the communications, telecom and broadcasting sectors, the board realized it needed to expand its mandate into the realm of technology to reflect the changing nature of the industry, Joanne Stanley, executive director of Canadian Women in Communications and Technology, told Playback Daily.
“We needed to provide programs and a forum for all those women to come together and help each other,” Stanley said. Membership to the organization is open to all women who work in the technology sector, Stanley said.
In addition to the rebrand and rename, the organization added a number of members to its board to reflect its new mandate at its annual general meeting on Feb. 12.
The new board members include:
– Namir Anani, president and CEO of the Information Communications Technology Council
– Nancy Chase, partner, KPMG Advisory Services
– Jackie King, general manager, Hill+Knowlton
– Dee-Ann Lama, VP marketing, Xerox
– Sandy McIntosh, VP, TELUS customer solutions human resources
– Leanne Park, senior director, professional services and sales, Cogeco Cable
– Shirley Anne Scharf, VP applications & performance, Communications Research Centre
– Jane Todd, CFO, Densigraphix Inc.
