Ubisoft investing $28M in Quebec City studio

Ubisoft will invest $28 million in its Quebec City studio over three years, the company has announced, with the eventual goal of adding 100 new positions within the studio.

The Quebec government is also supporting the expansion of the studio, with a $510,000 contribution through the ESSOR program. The program supports companies that expand and invest in their operations in Quebec.

“We’re pleased to be reinforcing our presence and our expertise in Quebec City with the help of the government” said Ubisoft co-founder and CEO, Yves Guillemot, in a statement.

“Our Quebec City studio has demonstrated its ability to manage large-scale projects and it is a natural progression to entrust the team with the production of AAA next-gen games.”

The Ubisoft Quebec studio opened in 2005, and currently employs more than 320 people. The studio has collaborated on the development of a number of video games, including Assassin’s Creed, Might & Magic, and the Prince of Persia series.

In the fall of 2013, Ubisoft announced it was expanding its Montreal operations significantly, investing $373 million over seven years and creating 500 new jobs.

As part of the expansion, the Quebec government provided a $9.9 million investment as a non-refundable grant as part of the expansion. The provincial government also adjusted tax credits to recognize new industry jobs as part of the incentive.
