The Canadian flag will fly at the Academy Awards thanks to Jean-Marc Vallée’s drama Dallas Buyers Club, which earned six nominations, including one for best picture.
The AIDS drama also saw Matthew McConaughey grab a best actor nomination for his star turn as a Texan cowboy diagnosed with HIV and fighting a corrupt system.
And Jared Leto earned a nomination in the best supporting actor for his role as Rayon.
Dallas Buyers Club also received a best screenplay nomination, film editing and another for best makeup and hairstyling. The film editing nomination went to Martin Pensa, a Montreal-based film editor who previously worked with Vallée on Café de Flore.
Elsewhere, Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners earned a nomination in the best cinematography for Roger E. Deakins.
And Canadian Owen Pallett, alongside Will Butler of Arcade Fire, earned a nomination for best original score for HER.
The documentary shorts competition also saw a nomination go to The Lady in Number 6, from director Malcolm Clarke and Montreal-based producer Bunbury Films.
The film portrays 109 year-old Alice-Herz Sommer, a pianist and Holocaust survivor.
Sarah Polley’s Stories We Tell was overlooked in the best feature documentary category, and Louise Archambault’s Gabrielle earlier missed out on a nod in the best foreign language category.
Chris Hemsworth and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president Cheryl Boone Isaacs announced the nominations on Thursday morning in Los Angeles.
The 86th annual awards show, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, will be handed out on March 2 and will air live on CTV.
