Off wins Drainie Award

Broadcast journalist Carol Off has been tapped by ACTRA for the John Drainie Award, applauding her work on CBC’s The National and As It Happens.

The work of the veteran documentarian, which includes In the Company of Warlords, Children of Chernobyl and Of Fatwas and Beauty Queens, ‘reveals a deep humanity…about Canadians and the people around the world,’ said Richard Hardacre, head of the actors union, in a statement. Off is also the author of the recent bestseller and investigation of the international cocoa trade Bitter Chocolate.

The award, named for the celebrated actor and presented by ACTRA since the 1960s, commends excellence in Canadian broadcasting.

‘I’m thrilled and deeply humbled by the company I will keep on its honor role,’ said Off. The award, which will be presented this fall, puts her among previous Drainie winners including Wendy Mesley, David Suzuki and Pierre Berton.
