Telefilm Canada has announced a $4 million investment in 18 lower-budget projects for the latest round of financing through its Canada Feature Film Fund.
The fund supports the production of English-language projects with budgets of $2.5 million or less. The current investment round covers the second quarter of Telefilm’s 2013-2014 fiscal year. The productions are from the Ontario and Nunavut, Western and Atlantic regions.
Topping the funding list with a $500,000 investment each are Relative Happiness, a comedy directed by Deanne Foley, and Seances, directed by Guy Maddin and Evan Johnson.
Relative Happiness began shooting in Nova Scotia this fall, and is produced by Wreckhouse Productions Inc. and Lad Hammond Entertainment Inc. Seances is an interactive, cross-platform film project produced by Buffalo Gal Pictures and Phi Film production.
Two films received $450,000 in funding, including Heartbeat, directed by Andrea Dorfman and produced by Idlewild Films Ltd. and Black Dog Films Inc. and Big Muddy, directed by Jeff Moneo and produced by Angel Entertainment Corporation
