Rogers Communications may have snagged the national NHL TV rights from under Bell Media’s nose for the next 12 years.

But Bell Media has bounced back and secured for RDS a new 12-year regional broadcast rights agreement for Montreal Canadiens games.

That will keep RDS, which has aired Canadiens games since 1992, as the official broadcaster of the Montreal NHL team through the 2025-2026 season.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it includes Bell Canada retaining the naming rights to the Bell Centre through 2028.

Rogers paid $5.2 billion for the national NHL TV rights over the next 12 years.

At the same time, Bell Media has pledged to keep hockey on its sport channels, which includes TSN.

Bell Media will now bid against Rogers’ Sportsnet channel for the regional NHL TV rights to Ottawa Senators games.
