ITV gets Proper

Popular lifestyle series including Canada’s Worst Driver and Newly Wed, Nearly Dead? will be part of ITV’s international slate, following a recent deal between the U.K. distributor and Toronto’s Proper Television.

ITV acquired exclusive international rights (outside Canada) to all content and formats developed by Proper, which also includes the upcoming factual entertainment series I Suck at My Job and Realtor vs. Realtor.

Job, which Proper is developing for CBC, takes a humorous look at those who are very near to losing their jobs, while Realtor pits top real estate agents against each other to find the dream home for the same client. The show will air on HGTV.

‘Proper TV is one of the fastest-growing factual indies in Canada and has the reputation of being extremely creative. We are very pleased to be working closely with one of the most innovative producers around,’ commented ITV Worldwide president Peter Iacono in a release.

‘Building a strategic relationship with a world leader in distribution is a big part of how we intend to grow Proper TV into a major player,’ added the prodco’s president Guy O’Sullivan.

O’Sullivan — a former producer/director for BBC and the U.K.’s Mentorn — launched Proper TV in 2004. The company was a recent co-winner of Playback’s Best Canadian award at the Banff World Television Festival for the feature doc The Real Superhumans and the Quest for the Future Fantastic.
