Maximum Films International has picked up international sales rights on Control Alt Delete, the debut feature of Vancouver filmmaker Cameron Labine world premiering in the Canada First! section at TIFF. Maximum’s distribution wing will handle the release in Canada.
The slacker comedy stars Labine’s brother Tyler (Reaper) as a Y2K programmer who prefers the company of his hardware over that of comely females. Co-stars are B.C. stalwart Sonja Bennett, Keith Dallas, Geoff Gustafson, Laura Bertram and Alisen Down. Labine also wrote the screenplay.
Maximum execs Charlotte Mickie and Bryan Gliserman, repping international territories and Canada, respectively, negotiated the deal with Control Alt Delete producers Lynne Stopkewich and Stephanie Symns of Vancouver-based Hard Drive Films. The film was financed with the help of Telefilm Canada, Film Incentive B.C. and British Columbia Film.
‘They really understand the film and have the most experience and best resources to properly back their commitment to us,’ said Symns in a statement. ‘Maximum is the right company to help target our audience of anyone who’s ever owned or leased a computer,’ added Stopkewich.
‘The film really delivers on an outrageous premise,’ says Mickie. ‘It’s truly funny and a marketing dream — one hook after another. But the big surprise: it’s got a real heart and sweetness at its core.’
According to Mickie, the film is generating buzz among ‘techno-savvy bloggers’. She says all three public screenings at TIFF are sold out.
