Picard leads Christal copro

Popular film stars Luc Picard and Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge are currently shooting Léo Huff, a $3.9-million film described by its producers as a cross between Blood Simple and Fargo.

‘It’s going to be a great film,’ says producer Marcel Giroux from the offices of Christal Films, which is coproducing the flick with GPA Films and Productions Grana of Moncton, NB. Seville Films is the distributor.

Directed by Sylvain Guy (The List), the shoot runs until Oct. 10 and includes locations in Quebec’s spectacular Gaspésie region. The film is the story of a man (Picard) asked by his boss to do a stint in the company’s rural office. During his travels he meets and gets involved with a young women (Isabelle Guérard) who is in an abusive relationship with Roch, played by Lemay-Thivierge (La ligne brisée).

Giroux says they decided to work with a producer in New Brunswick because the production costs are lower. ‘So much of the shoot takes place in the outdoors, New Brunswick is a perfect location.’

Giroux says SODEC and Telefilm Canada both contributed to the project, which he hopes will be screened at next year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
