Tony Parsons leaving CBC News Vancouver

If you’re in Vancouver, Tony Parsons is more than a local news anchor.

He’s an institution in British Columbia as the legendary veteran of BCTV/Global B.C.

And the CBC on Tuesday said Parsons will sign off with his final newscast for CBC News Vancouver on Dec. 20, 2013.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with CBC News Vancouver, an organization I have always held in the highest regard. I have enjoyed a long and fantastic career in broadcasting covering some of British Columbia’s biggest stories,” Parsons said in a news release.

The news anchor got his start in broadcasting with CFTO before moving to Vancouver in 19756 and spending 34 years with BCTV, which later became Global B.C.

He joined the CBC in 2010 as co-host of the pubcaster’s Vancouver newscast.

Parson’s current contract runs to the end of the year, and won’t be renewed.

“While my wife and I are very much looking forward to returning to Victoria to live full time, I will truly miss the team at CBC Vancouver who have become like family over the last three and a half years,” he said in a statement Tuesday.
