• CBS has followed CTV’s lead and signed up for another 13 episodes of Flashpoint, extending the cop drama’s life in the U.S. into next year.
• TSN2 has extended its reach in the west and across Canada, following pickups by Shaw Cable, Star Choice and BellTV.
• Maple Pictures has jumped on board George Clooney’s latest project, taking the Canadian rights to Men Who Stare at Goats.
• Super Channel has picked up Crash, the Dennis Hopper-starring series based on the Paul Haggis movie, and the motorbike gang series Sons of Anarchy, seen on FX. Crash, which airs on Starz in the U.S., and Anarchy both debut on Oct. 20.
• Breakthrough Entertainment has sold two of its best-known series high on the dial in Canada, sending all 65 episodes of its early hit The Adventures of Dudley the Dragon to APTN, and the entire 156 x 30 run of the Rick Mercer-hosted It Seems Like Yesterday to MEN TV. A pre-MIPCOM selling spree at Breakthrough has also sent 10 other titles overseas, including factual series War of the Wheels to AB Groupe in France, MOW Cradle of Lies to Yes in Israel, and the doc series Crime Stories, which has been acquired by TV4 in Sweden.
• Eastern Europe and the former USSR are set to get Ricky Sprocket – Showbiz Boy, following a series of deals by Bejuba! Entertainment, sending the 2D toon to 29 territories including Russia, Belarus, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Romania and the Czech Republic. The series is a copro with Studio B Productions in Vancouver.
• Portfolio Entertainment has picked up three HD series from Corkscrew Media, looking ahead to MIPCOM and deals for adventure show DreamChasers (8 x 60), wine travel show Divine Life (47 x 30) and the cooking series It’s Just Food (26 x 30).
• TVOntario and Knowledge Network have signed up for Wibbly Pig, the new preschooler series in the works at Toronto’s 9 Story Entertainment and Wish Films in the U.K. The educasters join the BBC’s CBeebies in commissioning the animated series, which is due for delivery in spring.
