Hot Docs and CBC’s digital channel Documentary have joined forces for a scholarship program aimed at aspiring documentary filmmakers in Canada.
The Documentary Doc Accelerator Scholarship Program will offer professional development opportunities to a select group of emerging directors during the Hot Docs Festival, as well as on-the-job skills training and mentorship.
The program will accept six to eight film school graduates from across Canada. Participants will receive travel, accommodation and accreditation to next year’s festival, which takes place Apr. 24 to May 4 in Toronto. They will participate in the conference, market and networking events in addition to sessions focused on entrepreneurial skills and career planning.
The second phase is a job placement with a documentary production company, where they will work with an on-the-job mentor.
Applications to the Documentary Doc Accelerator Sponsorship Program will be accepted beginning in November. Applicants must be a recent graduate of a post-secondary film, television or digital media program, and a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, legally eligible to work.
