Netflix: Q4 growth of Canadian subscribers will be ‘steady or up’

One pressing question underpinning the business strategies of Canadian cable and satellite TV operators is: can Netflix Canada add even more subscribers?

The Canadian offshoot of the U.S. video streaming giant on Monday said, as it released its latest financial results, that it has hit 40 million customers worldwide, including 9.2 million outside the U.S.

The results did not break out the subscriber base for Netflix Canada, now put at around 2.5 million Canadians.

But Netflix projected continued growth in Canada as it reported net additions here are expected “to be steady or up on a Q4 over Q4 basis.”

That growth in international markets, including Canada, is expected as Netflix continues to roll out new content like Orange is the New Black and Hemlock Grove, which is shot in Toronto.

The company also said it expected to cross the 10 million subscriber mark internationally during the current fourth quarter.
