Indiecan Entertainment has acquired Canadian distribution rights to Isaac Cravit’s debut feature Solo.

The psychological thriller stars Annie Clark (Degrassi) as a teenage girl who is terrorized as she spends two nights alone on a remote island as part of a camp counselor initiation.

Toronto-based Cravit also wrote the script for Solo, which he said in a statement grew out of a story he heard around a campfire one night, about a girl who had taken an overnight trip alone (a “solo”) during summer camp. When the girl developed her pictures from the trip, she found a picture of herself, asleep in her tent.

“This was a story I wanted to know more about. Who’s this girl? Who’s taking pictures of her? What physical and psychological toll does being alone in the wilderness taken on seventeen-year-old girl? That was the spark that started me writing,” Cravit added.

The film has screened at the Montreal Film Festival and Edmonton International Film Festival. It will also play at the upcoming Toronto After Dark fest on Oct. 21. L.A.-based Continental Media earlier  acquired worldwide rights ahead of Cannes, and sold U.S. rights to The Orchard for an October release.

Indiecan’s Avi Federgreen said in a statement that an early 2014 rollout is planned for the film in Canada.

Solo, which was shot outside of Toronto and in Algonquin Park by Stephen Chung, also stars Daniel Kash, Richard Clarkin, Steven Love and Alyssa Capriotti. Adam Locke-Norton edited the film, with original composition by Todor Kobakov.

Solo is produced by Ontario- and L.A.-based Lumanity Productions’ Chris Bennett and Robert Budreau, in association with Gyro Park Productions and Vigilante Productions.

Exec producers are Jacob Cohen, Dan Shimmerman, Mark Gingras, John Laing and Tom Bjelic, with production partners TMN and Movie Central.
