Israeli distributor Cinephil is expanding its sales team by taking on Heather Wyer (pictured), the former head of international sales for the National Film Board of Canada (NFB).

Wyer, who will be based in Canada, is currently the president of Showcast Media, a media agency she founded in 2010. She joins Cinephil in a bid to further boost the company’s international sales reach.

Cinephil MD Philippa Kowarsky told Playback sister publication realscreen: “I truly think [her hire] will expand our sales in both additional territories per film, and different platforms – predominantly digital.”

Wyer’s skillset includes worldwide sales and business development across all media platforms including TV, digital media, home entertainment, mobile and cinema. She has previously held posts at firms including Remstar, TVA International and Astral Media.

The news comes after Cinephil recently picked up festival hits such as Ukraine is Not a Brothel, Mission Congo and The Act of Killing.
