Proper Rights inks international deals for original series

Proper Rights has inked a slew of international deals for several of Proper Television’s original series, including Don’t Drive Here, Vegas Rat Rods and Last Car Standing.

The sales to territories including Australia, New Zealand, Central and Eastern Europe and Scandinavia, mark the first time Proper’s original series will be brought to viewers outside of Canada, according to a company release.

“The company is continuing to grow in size and success, and these deals mark an important milestone for Proper as we continue to bring our Canadian content to the global market,” said Proper president Guy O’Sullivan in a statement.

Scripps’ Travel Channel in the U.S. picked up doc series Don’t Drive Here, which airs on Discovery Canada domestically. The series sees host Andrew Younghusband learning to navigate six of the world’s worst driving cities.

Vegas Rat Rods, commissioned by Discovery Canada and Discovery U.S., was picked up in a pan-territory deal throughout Central and Eastern Europe and Scandinavia, to air on ViaSat’s pay TV channels. The series, which follows auto-pro Steve Darnell as he builds one-of-a-kind cars out of junk, has also been licensed to Foxtel in Australia and New Zealand.

And Discovery Networks Asia Pacific has licensed Last Car Standing, an elimination-style car competition featuring atrocious vehicles.

Proper is shopping the series, along with its original series Secret Life Of… and Hardcore Heroes, at MIPCOM next week.
