CCI gets Down

CCI Releasing has picked up the comedy Alice Upside Down — taking the international rights, with an eye to the TV and broadcast markets, with Starz Entertainment handling the U.S.

The 90-minute tween comedy stars Alyson Stoner (Camp Rock) as a young girl with an overactive imagination, which causes trouble as she tries to fit in at a new school. Lucas Grabeel (High School Musical), Luke Perry (Beverly Hills, 90210) and Penny Marshall of Laverne & Shirley fame also star. The movie, based on a series of novels by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, has been playing festivals since early this year. It won best comedy at the Los Angeles Film Festival.

The deal for the Toronto company follows other pickups including the family comedy A Plumm Summer, starring Henry Winkler, and the domestic MOW Sticks and Stones.
