An outing to Winnipeg worked out well for The Office and Global last week, when an episode set in the Manitoba capital scored 21% more viewers than the sitcom’s season-to-date average.
The episode, co-written by Toronto native Anthony Farrell and Brent Forrester (The Simpsons), drew 882,000 viewers on Thursday at 9 p.m., up from its 752,000 average, according to BBM Nielsen Media Research. (All numbers 2+ unless otherwise indicated.)
The numbers also jumped 26% in the key 18-49 audience demographic.
The episode generated some advance attention in the press. The cast and crew of the NBC sitcom did not travel to Winnipeg for the episode, in which Steve Carell’s character takes a business trip to the ‘exotic’ foreign city to pursue a potential client. Most of the Winnipeg scenes take place indoors.
As usual, The Office faced tough competition from the CTV medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, which scored 2.3 million viewers, up from the 2.2 million that tuned in the week before.
