The second installment of 3D FLIC‘s stereoscopic 3D showcase is going short this September.
The Bell Lightbox conference will include a 3D shorts program to underline the variety of 3D cinema emerging today.
“Our 3D shorts program does not offer awards, or prizes. It is about exposing the general public to the type of intriguing, entertaining or artful creativity that’s hard to find in mainstream, for-profit 3D Cinema,” said Christos Giotis, 3D FLIC project director, in a statement Wednesday.
That includes on the homefront a vanguard of 3D cinema from Imax, the National Film Board of Canada and indie producers.
The 3D shorts special event announcement follows TIFF earlier this month taking its own steps to boost exposure of the shorts in its Short Cuts Canada! program. The international festival is making the short films available on YouTube 24 hours after their premieres, and has introduced the YouTube Award for Best Canadian Short Film, a $10,000 prize.
The Sept. 20 to 22 3D FLIC conference in Toronto will also include panels on stereographic artistry, holographic displays, laser projection, 3D cinema sound and stereoscopic 3D in hard installations. Dead Before Dawn 3D director April Mullen and Eric Tessier, director of Les Pee Wee 3D, are set to appear as speakers.
