Starz backs three B.C. MOWs

U.S. pay-TV channel Starz Entertainment has teamed up with Vancouver producer Front Street Pictures to coproduce three B.C.-shot action-adventure TV movies for U.S.-based Sci-Fi Channel.

Beyond Sherwood stars Julian Sands as the sheriff of Nottingham and Robin Dunne (Sanctuary) as Robin Hood, and will be shot in Vancouver, with Peter DeLuise (Stargate SG-1) directing.

Burbank-based Starz says it has also attached to Merlin and the Book of Beasts, a King Arthur tale starring James Callis (Battlestar Galactica) that shot in and around Vancouver earlier this year.

Shannen Doherty toplines the third project, the Kamloops-shot Lost Treasures of the Grand Canyon, playing an archaeologist who leads her exploration team away from lost Aztec warriors.

Starz is the production and distribution subsidiary of U.S. media giant Liberty Media.
