The latest adventures of Anne Shirley played well for CTV on Sunday night, which saw 1.1 million viewers tune in for the three-hour-long Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning. The MOW from Toronto’s Sullivan Entertainment peaked slightly higher at 1.14 million in its final half-hour, according to CTV, though it was edged out by the season ender of Survivor: Gabon.
The long-running Global reality show wrapped its latest season on Sunday in a two-hour block that overlapped with the MOW’s run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., and pulled 1.8 million viewers in Canada.
A New Beginning saw young Hannah Endicott-Douglas take over as Anne, a role she landed last year following a casting call on YouTube and a cross-Canada audition tour. Barbara Hershey and Shirley MacLaine also star.
CTV did not miss the opportunity to promote the many other Anne-related shows that are due to air this month on the main network and its A channels. Anne of Green Gables: The Animated Series is due to begin airing on Dec. 22 on CTV, followed by nine hours of programming on the As on and around New Year’s, including the Sullivan-made Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel and Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story.
