Monday’s federal cabinet shuffle has Manitoba MP Shelly Glover named as the new heritage minister and official languages.
Glover, the parliamentary member for Saint Boniface since 2008, replaces James Moore who moves over to the industry minister portfolio, which was filled by Christian Paradis.
Before entering the House of Commons, Glover was a member of the Winnipeg Police Service for 19 years.
She was most recently parliamentary secretary to the minister of finance Jim Flaherty.
“I look forward to furthering our commitment to these economic challenges, and of course helping our cultural communities,” Glover said Monday in a YouTube video posted after her new appointment was made.
While Glover will oversee Canadian film, TV and digital sectors that rely heavily on public subsidies, Moore as the new industry minister will be in place to make key decisions about the future of the country’s expanding telecom sector as phone and cable giants increasingly move onto one another’s turf.
