Degrassi: The Next Generation has been renewed for a third and fourth season in 60% of the U.S. market by syndication outfit Program Partners.
The teen drama, produced by Epitome Pictures for CTV and the U.S. cable channel The N, debuted in syndication in March 2007 via a distribution agreement between Program Partners and Vancouver-based Thunderbird Films.
Los Angeles-based Program Partners said 19 Tribune stations, including in New York City and Los Angeles, five ACME stations and CW PLUS stations reupped Degrassi: The Next Generation for years three and four to 2011.
Program Partners and Thunderbird have also put a number of other Canadian dramas, including Da Vinci’s Inquest, Cold Squad and Stone Undercover, into weekly U.S. syndication.
Degrassi: The Next Generation, which follows the high school tribulations of young Canadian teens, launched in fall 2001 on CTV as the latest in a 25-year franchise from executive producer and co-creator Linda Schuyler. Its eighth season wrapped production in October.
