Canadian actor Cory Monteith, who shot to fame in Hollywood playing the character Finn Hudson on the Fox dramedy Glee, has died at age 31 after his body was discovered in a Vancouver hotel room.
“I want to pass on our condolences to the family, friends, castmates and millions of fans of Mr. Monteith,” acting police chief Doug LePard said late Saturday in a statement after paramedics and police rushed earlier in the day to the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel, where Monteith had been staying.
An autopsy is scheduled to take place Monday, even though police ruled out foul play as a possible cause in the actor’s death.
Canadian media, which considered Calgary-born, Victoria-raised Monteith their own when he occasionally returned home to work or promote causes, reacted with sadness to news of his death.
“He (Monteith) had a big show, but was he a big showoff? No. He was so Canadian, beaming, polite, full of energy. He didn’t mind what you asked him,” 680 News radio entertainment correspondent Gloria Martin, who interviewed the actor on a number of occasions, told Playback.
Monteith hosted the Gemini Awards in November 2010 in Toronto.
His film credits included Final Destination 3; The Invisible; Deck the Halls; Whisper; All the Wrong Reasons; Sisters & Brothers; and Monte Carlo.
