Canadian doc The Manor earns special mention in Karlovy Vary

The Hot Docs opener The Manor on Saturday seized the spotlight at the 48th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

As Central Europe’s biggest film festival wrapped, Shawney Cohen’s documentary about a family running a Guelph strip club earned special mention in the best documentary category.

Cohen and The Manor producer Paul Scherzer of Six Island Productions attended Karlovy Vary.

The winning documentary at the Bohemian spa town film festival was Vitaly Manskiy’s Truba (Pipeline).

The Karlovy Vary jury gave its top Grand Prix Crystal Globe award to the Hungarian film The Notebook (Le Grand Cahier) by director  Janos Szasz.
