Genre pics by Anthony Dixon, Matt Johnson to screen at Fantasia

The latest films by Anthony Dixon and Matt Johnson will feature among the Canadian genre cinema at the upcoming Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal.

Fantasia programmers booked Dixon’s The Dead Experiment, about a man researching his return to life after being dead for two weeks.

Ryan Brownlee, Jenna Jade Rain and Jamie Abrams star in the sci-fi drama.

And Fantasia will also screen Matt Johnson’s The Dirties, the Slamdance award winner that stars Owen Williams and Krista Madison and is receiving its Quebec premiere.

Local Quebec titles also feature in Montreal, including world premieres for Robert Morin’s Les 4 Soldats (pictured) and Discopath, Renaud Gauthier’s feature directorial debut.

And Éric Falardeau’s Thanatomorphose, a Kafkaesque tale of living death, will receive a Canadian premiere.

And the Canadian-Finnish co-production Imaginaerum by director Stobe Harju, about the neo-gothic metal band Nightwish, will receive a North American premiere.

Fantasia will open with the North American premiere of Takashi Miike’s Shield of Straw, which bowed in Cannes in competition.

The Fantasia International Film Festival will run from July 18 to August 6.

The full lineup will be unveiled on July 9.
