Amberwood, Big Jump make Shutterbugs

Kids and family indie producer Amberwood Entertainment and animation co Big Jump Productions, both of Ottawa, are teaming up on the animated preschool series Shutterbugs.

The series is created by Big Jump, and is its first proprietary project, company president Rick Morrison said in a statement. Kris Pearns (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2) provided conceptual designs, while Psychology Foundation of Canada program manager Barbara MacKay Ward developed the educational curriculum. Writer Brad Birch is on board as executive story editor.

Shutterbugs is described as a series “that offers young viewers an opportunity to understand their world through comedy, discovery, exploration and reasoning skills,” according to a release from Amberwood Entertainment.

Amberwood and Big Jump previously collaborated on The Secret World of Benjamin Bear, which airs on Family and Disney Junior in Canada, and has been licensed in over 120 territories internationally.

Amberwood is the prodco behind animated series Rob the Robot, co-produced with Singapore’s ONE Animation, while Big Jump is working on Muse Entertainment’s upcoming primetime animated series Bounty Hunters for CMT.

Jonathan Wiseman, Amberwood SVP, said in a statement that the companies are looking to add a commissioning broadcaster to the project.
