High demand taps out CMF’s digital media incentive program

The Canada Media Fund on Friday said its convergent digital media incentive program for French language producers was tapped out nine months earlier than planned as market demand outstrips the supply of subsidies.

That announcement follows the industry fund in April indicating applications for the same program for English language producers were similarly no longer been accepted as that pool of money had also run dry due to excessive demand.

The CMF had a budget of $9.6 million for convergent digital media projects in English, and another $4.8 million fund for convergent digital media projects in the French language.

Both programs opened  on April 2, 2013, before their funds for the entire year were quickly drained by accessing producers.

The English and French language convergent digital media incentive programs will reopen in April 2014.
