American distributor Regent Releasing plans an early summer stateside release for Roger Spottiswoode’s Shake Hands with the Devil after it picked up the U.S. rights to the Canadian-made Romeo Dallaire biopic.
The Genie Award-winning Rwandan drama, which stars Roy Dupuis as Dallaire, surpassed $1 million at the Canadian box office when it was released here by Seville Entertainment.
Regent last October released another Canadian indie picture, the Laurie Lynd comedy Breakfast with Scot, into the U.S. market. Both Breakfast with Scot and Spottiswoode’s Shake Hands bowed at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2007.
The Canadian drama from Halifax Film and Barna-Alper Productions portrays the true-life story of the former Canadian general who led an ill-fated UN mission in Rwanda during that nation’s civil war.
